North Stonington Republican Town Committee Platform 1. Government: Government exists by the consent of the electorate and must be held accountable to the people it serves. We believe that all elected officials must be held to the highest level of openness, honesty, and ethics. Good Government allows people to achieve their individual goals and aspirations by providing essential services without excessive regulation. These services include providing opportunities for a quality education, maintaining an efficient Town infrastructure, and proving for a safe and secure community now and in the future. The North Stonington RTC is committed to endorsing only those candidates who will adhere to and support these principles of good Government. 2.Taxes and the Town Budget: Government has the responsibility to spend tax dollars in the most efficient and effective manner possible. The North Stonington RTC supports the following positions concerning taxes and the Town Budget:
a.The Town Budget must reflect a balance between the need to fund Government at the lowest tax rate possible. b.The State of Connecticut relies too heavily on property taxes to fund local Government. We support a comprehensive and fair approach to property tax reform which reduces the property tax burden on local towns.
c.The annual Town Budget should be approved by referendum.
d.We do not support unfunded mandates levied on towns by our State Legislature.
e.North Stonington residents have a responsibility to pay their taxes in full and on time. However we also recognize the fact that excessive taxes impact the financial stability of families and their quality of life. We support a tax policy which provides the minimum tax rate needed to fund our Governmental needs.
3.Economic Development: The North Stonington RTC supports economic development that adheres to regulations and will increase our tax base, provide jobs for local residents, and attract other businesses and opportunities to our Town. We believe that thoughtful economic development can achieve these goals and still preserve the rural character of our Town by maintaining a clean and environmentally respectful impact on the land. 4.Town Population Growth: The North Stonington RTC believes that every American citizen has the right to live and work in locations that offer the best opportunities for themselves and their families. Our party welcomes new residents to North Stonington from all walks of life and encourages them to be actively involved in our Town. We believe that affordable housing development can be achieved to support new residents that will both provide good homes for families as well as compliment our Town’s volunteer philosophy Meet the Candidates will be updated soon Click here

Your Republican Town Committee is required by its by-laws to "seek out and recommend to the Republican Caucus at least one qualified Republican for each office vacancy." The purpose of this clause in the by-laws is to assure that capable nominees are available for Caucus consideration for Endorsed Candidates.
